When we think of holidays in Kos we think of Kardamena. This charming town has grown from a small fishing village into one of the most thriving, vibrant resorts on the island. With clear warm waters and wide sandy beaches, Kardamena is a holiday haven. There’s plenty of bars and nightclubs, in fact it’s quite famous for them, but at its heart the resort is still full of unspoilt, pretty charm. Don’t miss a visit to the archaeological site of the Asklepion. This spa town of classical Greece was where Hippocrates, the father of medicine, lived and worked.
The ancient Kos Town, founded in 366 B.C., was historically the crossroads of the ancient Greek and Roman civilisations. Here you can see the medieval Castle of Neratzia at the harbour entrance and enjoy its fascinating evocation of the Kos Town of the Middle Ages. There’s also the Platanos, a huge old tree which may be the oldest in Europe and under which legend has it Hippocrates taught. Also well worth a visit is the town’s archaeological museum which houses wonderful sculptures of Aphrodite and Eros and intricate mosaics.
